After several recent interesting conversations, and from watching TV and listening to the radio for the last 10 years (I never read the papers!), and from a purely personal point of view - am I the only person who increasingly thinks that the term ‘Anglo Saxon’ is a term of racist abuse towards the English and the Americans that has come about in the last ten years or so as a response to the Iraq war?

Or are there deeper, nastier reasons?

There is also some element of fury from recent immigrants who hold historical grudges as a residue of Empire, but as we no longer abuse every Italian we meet because of the Roman Empire, it is necessary to realise that all those people are dead and that you are shouting at innocent children.

It is also important to note that such abuse is as old as the hills and has been thrown at us since Roman times, but we somehow have never quite gotten used to it!

I am getting increasingly fed up with being told that the English have no culture and that because ‘I am white and I can’t fight back’, all sorts of people who regard themselves as absolutely perfect have been queuing up to have a poke at me and mine?

This continual stream of racist abuse is coming from people who do not wish to consider themselves to be English, but who wish to be designated as ‘British’, and also from foreign nationals abroad who have historic grudges, all of whom seem to be belong to the category of ‘purist political correctness freaks’ who are getting these attitudes from a thin stream of populist taunting allowed by current ruling elites (hereinafter referred to as the 10%), some of whom we do not know.

All of this proves beyond doubt that they have not taken a good look at their own attitudes or read a history book!!

OK, I am not about to defend Empire and all that jazz, but I would point out the following:

• We Brits learnt the hard way from the Romans that brute force works. I don’t think we have ever really gotten over this. Ever since then, our academic institutions pour out Roman devotees, who though British themselves, pour scorn and abuse on our Celtic ancestors because they lost, because they were dirty and they smelt bad and because they had no technology and because they died in such numbers defending their way of life and made such good slaves..
• The fact that we British ‘are all dirty’ was told to me recently by a newcomer to these isles. Did you know that early Church forbade us to wash? Until recently, most poor people were not able to afford the cost of heating water and so one bath a week in front of the fire for all members of the family was all that was possible? The Victorians brought in sewers and plumbing which helped a good deal of course, but you have to take into account the grinding poverty of the lower classes and the sort of housing we were forced to live in, especially after the Industrial Revolution when we were all poured into those tenements with no facilities and expected to work morning, noon and night for paupers wages as we buried child after child after child who did not survive the conditions, like those poor people who called every child they had William or John in the hopes that one of them would survive. Does anyone else remember those early films taken of babies in cots crawling with cockroaches filmed to illustrate the social conditions pre 1948 to prove the political case for the founding of the NHS?
• We now discover that our Celtic ancestors did actually take extraordinary care of their appearance! I cannot believe that I am still having to defend myself and my ancestors against ancient Roman racism revamped by modern political correctness and the political racist abuse of the 10%, who probably thought that as our ancestors were ‘dirty’ we could live in those conditions while the 10% lived in mansions? But Tacitus has been so often repeated by the 10%, academics, ‘posh’ people and historians over the decades that it is still currency!!! I wonder how these people regard for example, the Inuit or the Siberians who have no unfrozen water, or the peoples in Africa who have to walk many miles each day just to get drinking water? Are they ‘dirty’ too?
• Also, a recent study of the bog bodies of ancient Europe reveals how carefully manicured Celtic finger nails were and how carefully their hair was arranged, so we can now UNDERSTAND these comments as Roman racism! There is nothing new under the sun! We now also know from archaeology that Celtic technology was very advanced and included the invention of chain mail and advanced metal working. This Roman racism lasted so long and was so influential and so often repeated by the 10% and by politicians and classically trained academics that is has become quite real!
• This is why the British Museum is full of loot from the classical world, because until recently they were too ashamed to put indigenous British artifacts on show, (too busy conquering primitive peoples and not happy with any reference that we were once primitive peoples).
• The Gallic Wars were a whiteout to our Celtic consciousness and they preceded our own invasion by only a hundred years. We know from classical texts that Julius Caesar was a genocidal maniac who killed millions (yes millions!) of us and enslaved millions (yes millions!) of us, even to the wiping out of whole tribes many hundreds of thousands strong, just to prove what a genocidal maniac he was.
• Caesar is still worshiped today by most British historians and intelligentsia, and especially the 10% who love all that success and technology! Tacitus puts it all too well, and we still believe his rhetoric even though it was written to demean the Celtic Nation so the Romans could rape us and kill us and carry us off into slavery so they could steal everything we had. Tacitus laughs about this in his writings, can you believe that? And still people repeat it!
• It always amazes me when academics and historians ponder over who burnt Rome that they never even consider the millions (yes millions!) of newly enslaved and recently traumatised Celtic slaves there must have been in Rome. When the Jewish Nation was destroyed, it was within 20 years of the Celtic Nation being similarly destroyed. Time line as follows: Boudicca revolts 60-62AD, Rome burnt 64AD, Jerusalem destroyed 70AD, Masada 73AD, Vesuvius erupts 79AD. OK I know Vesuvius has nothing to do with these sequence of events, but it sure was a dramatic time to live through!
• All those Celtic slaves ripped from their homes and sent into slavery in the Roman world would have gotten about all over the place, wouldn’t they? So if you come from a country that was a Roman province, maybe you should ask yourselves if you have Celtic ancestors and stop taking pot shots at their descendants!
• As Neal Stephenson points out so well in Cryptomonicom, Athene and her technology will always win over Ares and his brand of brain dead lust for glory in war, destruction and madness. However, over the two thousand years since then, we Brits have learned a thing or two. We have become the beast in order to survive and done as many dreadful things as any other culture has done. Name one race, culture, religion or creed on the planet that hasn’t. But we did eventually discover that Athene can be worshiped successfully, which is why we won the second world war (see Neal Stephenson ’s brilliant analysis in Cryptomonicon), and then we finally UNDERSTOOD!
• Athene worship has allowed us to understand that neighborliness is the only eventual wisdom on this rock hurtling through space at whatever speed per second, and that no matter how awful we were or still are, there does come a time when we must discover our humanity, which Britain is struggling to do no matter what you may think about our success or lack of it.
• The rest of the world may hate us, but they also made us, just as we made them. When our critics have had time to examine their own roles in this and studied their own histories carefully, they will eventually UNDERSTAND this.
• Please also remember that Saxony still exists and such abuse is hurting peoples who are probably quite flummoxed as to why the name of their district is such a term of abuse. Imagine having to explain it to your children and show some consideration?
• England was formed because it was surrounded on all sides by neighbours who believed that ’sleeping with the enemy’ would get them into our good books. Irish pirates and Pictish raids did not start after the Romans left, so much as resume their constant erosion of any effort towards neighbourly cohesion of a truly united kingdom. Their incessant predatory destruction of our early attempts to form a solid and peaceful British civilisation throughout the dark ages, now not so dark after all, resulted in a great deal of mayhem and animosity, not to mention invasion and general war like heaving and shoving. Irish slave raids on our Western coastline is an acknowledged fact and Dublin was a busy slaving port throughout the 3rd, 4th and 5th centuries, and possibly beyond. It was still a busy slaving port under the Vikings in later centuries as well, many of the slaves taken in raids from England’s coast. So in effect, though they complain about us, they created us! England has actually banned slavery three times! Once in the 8th century (the Irish), again in the 11th century (the Vikings) and then in the 18th century (the only one that is talked about nowadays).
• The early middle ages was not much better, was it? The same washing machine on full spin struggle continued, making us stronger and stronger and more determined to hold onto what we had got. So in effect, though people complain about us, they created us! Of course, by this point we are also creating them!
• The middle ages …. well ditto! The Tudors soon taught them all a thing or too huh? Why do you think we are so proud of Elizabeth?
• And so it continues on and on. Ireland and Scotland continued to ’sleep with our enemies’ with increasing frequency and ferocity. Inquisitions and incursions (by this point almost too many to count!) were launched at us by enemies who were pretending to be our friends, using and manipulating our neighbours, constantly trying to invade us and weaken us, but only succeeding in making us soooo much stronger and very much nastier!!
• Though we now trumpet the Magna Carta, it spawned inquisition after inquisition from Rome! Pope Innocent went bananas! How many people know this? We cannot just choose a date, eg: 15th June, for our new ‘English National Day’ because the Magna Carta was re written several times over a couple of centuries, leaving a trail of devastation and inquisition and neighbourly insurgency in its wake. How many people know that? So though they complain about us, they made us etc. By this time England especially is getting bigger, stronger and very very much nastier!
• This seems about the right point to mention the Barbary Pirates, who stole millions (yes millions!) of slaves from our coastline and from European coastlines and shipping to transport to Morocco and sell in their slave markets there. The Irish still remember and honour the sites of the dead and empty villages which are all that remains of communities where every member, man women and child was shipped off into slavery. And the Irish never forget a slight, remember this. We British have had to learn this the hard way.
• Here I must mention the millions (yes millions!) of people who were killed by the Inqusition and the Roman Church for witchraft and heresy. OK, we were only subjected to a few hundred burnings and such like, but we live very close to Europe and we heard tales, OK? All that fear and loathing seeping across the channel made for very fertile ground when Luther got all agitated. It wasn’t just indulgences that got his back up, and he would not have had such a ready audience if the church hadn’t burnt all those women in Southern Germany. Browsing second hand book shops produces lots of little tomes with titles like ‘The Inquisition Revealed in its origin, policy, cruelties and history with memoirs of its victims’ etc written in Victorian times. This sort of thing burns deep into the consciousness of peoples who have to live with it in their history. Those of you who think the church is a nice little social club had better do some research!
• This seems to be the point to mention deportation in general, as Britain only turned to African slaves because they ran out of poor, unlucky British people to transport to the colonies to work as menial labour there. I mean its not as if they didn’t try to get rid of the underclass here, but there were just too many of us and they couldn’t transport enough of us quickly enough, but by god they tried, what with potato famines and clearances and deportation to the colonies for any reason they could think up at the time. So remember, if you come from the Caribbean just how many British ancestors you may have! However, philanthropists and good people began to feel queasy about forcibly transporting the domestic population enmasse. When the English won the contracts for African slaves from Spain! Bingo! (’They’ or the 10% upper class aristocracy who owned 90% of everything and had done since 1066AD when they first coined the term ‘Anglo Saxon’ in order to steal everything from us for a second time. The Irish are not the only ones with long memories! Please take note of this. 11 people owned 50% of all the wealth in 1066 AD with another 180 people owning all the rest. Think about this!)
• Prejudice is the umbrella term here. Racism and classism and sexism are all sub categories of prejudice. If you designate someone as an ‘other’ then you are prejudiced against your own ‘family’. If this is not understood, then it is possible to make all sorts of category errors and end up abusing the descendants of your own ancestors because you don’t acknowledge them as your family, because in truth, we are all ‘family’. By calling us Anglo Saxons, you are repeating the racist abuse of the 10%, and such prejudice is racist abuse which mimics classism on an already oppressed peoples and apes the 10% which is frankly disgusting! What a convoluted double twist of abusers abusing the abused! The 10% must be laughing their socks of at you! You are doing their job for them and you are still just as oppressed as we are! You won’t improve your situation one jot by such comments, and in truth you are probably digging yourselves further down into the mire of oppression by not being better than those you accuse of oppressing you. Wow, this is a very sophisticated and nasty little mechanism, isn’t it?
• However, hundreds of thousands of us were designated as ‘other’ and deported to the Caribbean, to Australia and anywhere else they thought might be useful. The 10% tried the same tactic with other peoples from all over the Empire too, but like slavery, they practiced their dire arts on us first before they even came looking for you! Always remember that the 10% perfected their techniques on us before they even came looking for you!
• If your children don’t do well in British schools, which were machines to keep the lower classes down anyway before you got here, is it surprising to you that they will struggle to get ahead? No matter how many reforms our education system undergoes, classism will still operate flawlessly, especially as everyone is climbing over themselves to get into a better class of school! How the 10% must be laughing at all this mess! And they are still rich and we are still struggling. Of course, the 10% are now called ‘celebrities’ aren’t they, so don’t go getting all fired up at ‘aristocrats’ ’cause by all this pushing and shoving you are behaving just like them, aren’t you?
• Of course, celebrities are now the new aristocracy aren’t they? And don’t you all want to be a celebrity? Can’t you see what you are really doing? You are just perpetrating the class system. How the 10% must be laughing at you. I personally gave up being a feudal serf when I was aged 13! Since that time, I have regarded everybody I meet as an equal! I don’t laugh with the 10%, so why do you do their abuse for them and why do you ape them?
• Oh! By the way, the Romans invented concentration camps to exterminate the Ostrogoths and the Visigoths in the 4th century. Check your history books! It wasn’t the British in South Africa, though of course the 10% continued to use the tactics they had learns from Rome. British schools have taught us since the year dot that we ARE Romans! They never miss a trick to ‘loose’ our Celtic ancestors. There really is nothing new under the sun! How often have I heard the ‘fact’ that the British invented them in South Africa? Check your facts before you come out with the next bit of juicy racist abuse!
• The same thing happened with the origins of the Inquistition. Historians and politicians etc are always saying the Inquisition was ‘invented’ by the Spanish queen Isabella to destroy the Arabs in Southern Spain. Well, it wasn’t, it was just revamped. It was ‘reinvented’ by the Catholic Church and the French king to destroy the Cathars in Southern France three centuries earlier, but they the Roman Church is just a continuation of Rome which is why the Pope still carries the title Holy Roman Emperor. So why the subterfuge? Why indeed. Just as you can lie with statistics, you can lie with history. Check out people’s intentions, leanings and belief structure, and then you will see their rationale for prejudice. Just as people cherry pick their ancestors to suit their modern day politics, don’t for one moment think this is the truth! Why waste time with the ‘truth’ when all you are after is a juicy bit of racist abuse?
• And always check to see how many ancestors you might have from these islands before you start throwing stones. Genetics has shown that most American and Caribbean Blacks have white European male Y chromosones. You really are British if this is the case, then aren’t you! So show some consideration for what we have had to go through and stop attacking your own ancestors. Most of us were not in the privileged 10% and my ancestors lived like peasants always do. Go back as far as you like in my family line, on either the maternal or the paternal line, and you will not find one of them rich enough to even own a turnip until after the second world war!!
• The transfer of the British Monarchy to the Hanovarians after the death of Queen Anne upset the other side who wanted Bonnie Prince Charlie and his descendants to inherit the British throne. It is rumored that they still want to unseat them and so they vote republican to upset the apple cart. People who are real republicans are unaware of this. Of course our current Royal Family are called Germans, hence another round of anti Anglo Saxon sentiment. However it is well known that the Royal House of Europe is completely interbred and in fact the old Queen Mother was a descendant of Robert the Bruce, but she was still called German! Prince Phillip is called all sorts of things including German and Greek etc, but he is also the closest living relative of the Russian Monarchy as well, and his genetics were used to identify the Romanovs when their ghastly remains were discovered in a Russian forest.
• No matter huh, if you are working up to a really great piece of racist abuse? The truth doesn’t have to be in there, does it? I wonder how much of this Anglo Saxon racist abuse is coming from shadowy political figures who just want to steal Britain off us yet again? What jolly fun to get other oppressed minority groups to finish us off for them, so these new minority groups can do what exactly? Become rich and become celebrities? Do you really think that by abusing us you are going to become the 10%? Do you really think that by climbing over us to get at the top of the pile in Britain you are going to become 10%? How they must be laughing at all this mess! The 10% have always laughed and stirred up all this abuse from behind the scenes, and we have to fight classism to stop it. If you are equal, if all people are equal, then no one can be 10%!! Why is this so hard to see?
• And by the way, British cooking is really great and abusing our food is just another way of racially abusing us.
• So why are the Americans targeted as Anglo Saxons then? Is it the Blair Bush relationship or something darker and deeper. I only have one fact that might have a bearing on this. Jeremy Paxman in his book The English, mentions the fact that 80% of all white immigration into the USA from Europe was from the British Isles (Irish potato famine and Scottish clearances plus deportees to the colonies). Can it really be that these people have now been designated ‘Anglo Saxon’ too? Wow! The tenacity and depth of racist abuse if this is really the case boggles the mind.
• When I first became interested in history, I was admittedly anti English because I didn’t know any better, and quite frankly they are indefensible on first glance. So I became interested in Welsh history because I was born almost inside Wales in the Forest of Dean and I discovered that I am a Forester with ancient rights from time out of time to mine for coal and iron, if I ever get the time! How nice of the English to give me such rights and privileges when they didn’t even know me, especially when I went on to discover that I am not Welsh, but Scottish! I also realised that Llewelyn, the last Prince of Wales was not as interested in restoring the Welsh nation as in getting rich at everyone else’s expense, OK this is not everyone’s interpretation, but he did subsequently loose everything for the Welsh which is why Charlie is now Prince of Wales!
• So now I go off in search of my Scottish ancestors, only to discover that I was forcibly removed from Scotland during the Clearances, stripped of my clan name and sent of to die horribly, who cares where. And if I may just ask a simple question here? When my bedraggled ancestors were forcibly evicted from the highlands, who helped them? Did the locals who stayed behind in Scotland offer them a cup to tea or a wee dram of anything to succour them on their long march, or did they go out and hurriedly buy a load of sheep?
• So now I am English! It seems my rugged ancestors trailed down from Scotland and took roost in the West Country, marrying English people who did give them a cup of tea and a wee dram of something! They even LOVED us! They even CARED for us! Just as my mother loved and cared for me. Her ancestry is just as interesting, though I haven’t traced it all yet. She appears to have descended from the last independant Celtic British Kingdom of Berncia, whose surviving members survived all comers, but who are remarkably and demonstrably STILL THERE! Historians call them everything over time, Vikings, Anglo Saxons, you name it, but they never call them Celtic! That would be just too awful, wouldn’t it. But they are Celtic and they are also all those other people, because all those other people are US!!
• So then I get REALLY interested! I did not finish my History and Archaeology degree at Birkbeck College for reasons I will discuss elsewhere, but I loved Birkbeck and I am really grateful for the experience. Thank you Ian Haynes and Guy Halsall! Thank you so very much for opening my eyes, horrific as I found that experience! I realised that history is written by the winners (sorry Guy, that’s what I believe) who twist and turn and commit the most horrible sacriledge, as befits their politics!

PLEASE NOTE:

• Anglo Saxon is just another name for us! We are the Anglo Saxons and the Celts and the Vikings and the Normans and the Bretons and the Britains and the Welsh and the Scots and the Irish and the Germans and the Danish and lots of French people etc! But what’s in a name? If you look at the DNA evidence, we North Western Europeans are all one Iron Age family who only differ because historians and politicians give us different names at different times as befits their power grabbing machinations throughout history. The Browns, the Smiths, the Jones the O’Neills, the Mac Gregors etc - these are not RACIAL differences!! They are all family names from ONE PEOPLE!
• Genetics prove that none of the human family are more than 14th cousin once removed anyway because of the bottle neck in human evolution about 73,000 BCE years ago that reduced our total human population down to near extinction level, about 10,000 souls only survived the eruption of the Toba supervolcano!
• The Vikings become Normans become French, and then turn out to be from Norway and Orkney, but they are still US! We were not invaded by the French in 1066 because William was related to the Anglo Saxon royal line, he was Viking in origin and most of his troops were Bretons, that is Britons who left when the Romans did and then decided to come back home. William only brought in about 250 Norman knights with him, the rest were ex pat families coming home to grab power, and William’s army included any number of German, French, Irish and Scottish pilgrims and other mercenaries, all utilising the Celtic Language Loop to outwit Rome (the Celtic languages were still spoken in the 11th century, such that they could organise this little rebellion without Rome knowing anything about it).
• Most of Williams’ 250 knights all married Celtic princesses in order to reclaim or claim ownership of ancestral lands throughout Britain. Now where do you think they found all those Celtic princesses in Anglo Saxon England? How many people know all of this?
• When you are working up to a really great piece of racial abuse, who cares about what actually happened anyway?
• How many people know that Britain is just the latinised version of the ancient name of our Island, Prydain, but the Romans couldn’t pronouce the Celtic?
• The Germans had shamans too. Historians tell us that the were not Druids, but Caesar’s Druid friend was German! Historians tell us that Stonehenge was not built by Druids because they do not enter the written historical record until about 400 BCE. They do not however tell you that history existed before the written record (one of the first things I learnt at Birkbeck) and they CANNOT tell you what the builders of Stonehenge called their shamans, because they DO NOT KNOW. But they keep repeating that Druids are Celtic shamans and therefore cannot be older that the late Iron Age, but they DO NOT KNOW THIS and they CANNOT PROVE THIS. Nonetheless, they repeat it as truth as often as they can get their faces on the TV, as if it were fact, as if it were true! This all goes to show that you cannot take everything a historian tells you as truth, and that you have to think laterally and for yourself and in a circular fashion.

So, where does this all leave us? You will note that I have not mentioned the rest of the World. This is because I am still trying to sort out my own backyard, something I STRONGLY ADVISE! My analysis to date is that my family lived in North West Europe and on the Island of Prydain when it emerged from under the Ice Age about 15,000 BCE and that they have ALWAYS DONE SO! I am awaiting my genetic analysis from the National Genographic Project with some interest, as you can imagine!I think we all know that we all originally come from Africa via the last great migration via the super highway of the middle east about 40,000 BCE, but if you want to go back that far to find racial insults to hurl at me and mine, then what price indigenous? Britain’s indigenous populations have not lived through the last 40,000 years to find that ‘we are all foreigners’! If this insult applies to us, then look back into the past of 95% of human families and you will find it also applies to other cultures, groups, countries and nations who might shoot you or much worse if you try this tactic on them!!! So keep a civil tongue in your heads and go and find out about your own backyard before you use political correctness to fling insults about, of course in the nicest possible way and with the best of political taste and only at already designated groups to be targeted to give shadowy groups of power hungry individuals dubious political advantage, and using the rest of you dolts to spread their foul doctrines. So there!!
