Numerous leading conventional physicians and scientists who have had extremely positive things to say about homeopathy include Charles Darwin, Sir William Osler (the “father of modern medicine”), Emil Adolph von Behring, MD (the “father of immunology”), Charles Frederick Menninger, MD (founder of the Menninger Clinic), August Bier, MD (the “father of spinal anesthesia”), C. Everett Koop, M.D. (former Surgeon General, U.S.), Brian Josephson, PhD. (Nobel Laureate & Cambridge professor).

At least eleven American Presidents used homeopathic medicines or sponsored legislation to allow homeopathic practice (Abraham Lincoln, John Tyler, Rutherford B Hayes, James A Garfield, Chester A Arthur, William Henry Harrison, William McKinley, Calvin Coolidge, Warren G Harding, Hoover & Clinton)…and two British Prime Ministers (Benjamin Disraeli and Tony Blair).

Many of America’s literary greats advocated for and often wrote about homeopathy, including Washington Irving, Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Mark Twain… and European greats such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and George Bernard Shaw.

Homeopathic medicine also once had a major presence in American medical care and in American society. In 1900 there were 22 homeopathic medical schools in the US, including Boston University, University of Michigan, New York Medical College, Hahnemann University, University of Minnesota, and even the University of Iowa. Further, many of America’s cultural elite were homeopathy’s strongest advocates, including Rockefeller Snr, William James, Susan B. Anthony, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Henry David Thoreau, Harriet Beecher Stowe and others.

Numerous sports greats have bragged about their use of homeopathic medicines including David Beckham, Martina Navratilova, Boris Becker, and many more.

Many world-class musicians have greatly appreciated homeopathy including Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann, Frédéric Chopin, Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Cher, Tina Turner, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Townshend, Annie Lennox, Bob Weir, Paul Rodgers, Axl Rose, Moby, Jon Faddis, and Dizzy Gillespie.

Numerous movie and TV celebrities have benefited from homeopathy, including early stars such as Sarah Bernhardt, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Marlene Dietrich and John Wayne and some of the modern-day stars, including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Lesley Ann Warren, Pamela Anderson, Jane Seymour, Suzanne Somers, Lindsay Wagner, Michael York, Dr. Phil and Robin McGraw, Priscilla & Lisa Marie Presley, Jennifer Aniston, Jade Jagger, Tobey Maguire, and Orlando Bloom.

World leaders and prestigious organisations come out in favour of homeopathy:

The World Health Forum that “Homeopathy seems well suited for use in rural areas where the Infrastructure, Equipment, and Drugs needed for Conventional Medicine cannot be provided.”

Mahatma Gandhi said, “Homeopathy cures a greater number of people than any other method of treatment” which is why homeopathy proliferates in India so widely.

Mother Theresa included homeopathy in her clinics. At present, four charitable homeopathic dispensaries are run under the guidance of the Mother’s Missionaries of Charity. One of these dispensaries primarily provides homeopathic medicines to poor and sick children in Calcutta, while the other three provide homeopathic medicines to anyone who needs them. Considering the serious health problems that poor people in India experience, it is truly miraculous that homeopathic medicines are so effective as the primary method of treatment for many children and many adults.

A number of popes including Pius X, John Paul II, and the current pope, Benedict XVI.

Francois Mitterand of France called for more research into homoeopathy in an article in Le Novel Observateur, the Editor of this magazine stated in his editorial, “It is a fact that homeopathy obtains results, and sometimes spectacular results.”

Celebrities such as Twiggy, Susan Hampshire, Dan Hind, Louise Jameson, Gaby Roslin, Jude Law, Sadie Frost, Nadia Sawalha, Annabel Croft and Meera Syal, as well as The Queen and Prince Charles are all supporters of homeopathy

Florence Nightingale also consulted Dr James Manby Gully.

Bill Clinton President Clinton created the Commission by direct executive order, with a two-year agenda to evaluate the changing presence and importance of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) and to provide guidance and recommendations to governmental agencies for its orderly study and incorporation into mainstream medicine. The creation of the commission represents an extraordinary turning point in the history of alternative medicine in this country and is the result of unusual bipartisan support in Washington.

Alan Johnson MP (Secretary of State, Department of Health) Hansard. “In preparing to reply to this Adjournment debate, I looked carefully at the points the hon. Gentleman made in his letter to me but I am not persuaded of the need to issue guidelines at this time. It is clear to me that many more patients want the benefit of complementary and alternative medicine and therapies; indeed, the most recent survey showed a high percentage of patients looking for that. What general practitioners do is very much a matter for them; for instance, I understand that in the Newcastle primary care trust area 69 per cent. of GPs deal with complementary and alternative medicines, so I see no need to issue guidelines at this stage, but I agree with the hon. Gentleman that such medicines are becoming an increasingly important part of GP prescriptions.”
