Samuel Cockburn, 1823 - c1915 LRCS Edin. 1848, MD St Andrews 1848, MBH, a Licentiate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, Physician to the Dundee Homeopathic Dispensary at 14 New Inn Entry.

Samuel Cockburn practiced at 126 Nethergate, Dundee, Montagu Place, 173 Bath St, Glasgow, and at 6 Hamilton Park Terrace, Glasgow
Homeopathy had many converts in Scotland at this time, including Francis Black, Samuel Cockburn, Robert Ellis Dudgeon, Adam Lyschinsky, MacDonald, William MacLeod, Charles Ransford, John Rutherford Russell, Thomas Skinner, G E Stewart, Dionysius Wielobycki, and many others. By 1851, 8 out of 48 graduates from the University of Edinburgh were homeopaths, including Alfred Pope.
Samuel Cockburn wrote Medical Reform, An Exposition of the Homeopathic Law, Homeopathy: a System of Medicine Founded on Facts not on Speculation, The Two Systems of Medicine, The laws of nature and the laws of God, Thoughts in Verse, and many articles for The British Journal of Homeopathy, The British Homeopathic Review, A Manual of Pharmacodynamics, and a letter to The North American Journal of Homeopathy, including No Sectarianism in Medicine.

John Cockburn was Samuel Cockburn Senior’s *brother, *born in Duns, Berwickshire. *John Cockburn was also a homeopath and a *deeply religious man, and he is listed in The London and Provincial Homeopathic Medical Directory in 1866, and in The British, Colonial, and Continental Homeopathic Medical Directory in 1898.
*John Cockburn’s wife, Janet Bryson Kennedy Cockburn, was an early suffragette and the president of the Glasgow Women’s Christian Temperance Union when she died c1917.
*Samuel Cockburn Senior’s son Samuel Cockburn Junior 1866 - 1939 *died of a heart attack on January 13, 1939 while vacationing in Portpatrick.
*Thomas Cockburn was the *son of John Cockburn, and he was the *Chief Chemist for the City of Glasgow in the 1930s and the first half of the 1940s.
