Pope Gregory XVI 1765 – 1846

Pope Gregory XVI 1765 – 1846, born Bartolomeo Alberto Cappellari, named Mauro as a member of the religious order of the Camaldolese, was Pope of the Roman Catholic Church from 1831 to 1846.

Pope Gregory XVI was favourably impressed by the ability of homeopathy to combat the cholera epidemics sweeping Europe at this time, and he awarded the Grand Cross to Settimio Centamori for his work in combating these terrible epidemics,

Pope Gregory XVI issued the official permission that allowed Johann Wilhelm Wahle to practice homeopathy in the Vatican, where he became the homeopathic physician to the Vatican Jesuit Convent.

In 1845, Pope Gregory XVI awarded Comte Sebastien Gaeten Salvador Maxime Des Guidi the Order of Saint Sylvester. Pope Gregory XVI awarded Charles Ozanam the Order of Saint Gregory the Great, and he also awared homeopathy the priviledge of a Papal Bull, allowing the administration of homeopathic remedies by Priests in emergencies, in the absence of a doctor.

Pope Gregory XVI sought to open a homeopathic hospital at this time, but opposition from the allopathic physicians, and the decline of cholera all coincided to prevent this happening. Continue Reading »

Johann Wilhelm Wahle 1794 – 1853 was a German orthodox physician who converted to homeopathy and graduated from the Allentown Homeopathic Academy in America,

Wahle was a student of Samuel Hahnemann, and he practiced homeopathy in the Vatican with the official permission of Pope Gregory XVI, and he became the homeopathic physician to the Jesuit Convent there, and personal physician of Christian Karl Josias Bunsen, Ambassador of Prussia in Rome.

Wahle was present at the unveiling of the Samuel Hahnemann statue in Liepsig in 1851.

Rocco Rubini 1805? – 1886? MD was an Italian orthodox physician who converted to homeopathy, to become the Medical Director of the Homeopathic Hospital of Saint Maria della Cesarea in Naples, and the Physician of the Count of Syracuse,

Rubini successfully treated Frances Bryant, the wife of William Cullen Bryant, in Naples in 1856.

In 1864, Rubini proved Cactus Grandiflorus, and he was awarded an Honorary Degree from the Homeopathic Medical College of Pensylvania.

Cesare Mattei 1809 – 1896

Count Cesare Mattei 1809 – 1896 was an Italian Aristocrat and lay practitioner, who developed a form of therapy called Electro Homoepathy, which is widely enjoyed today as Spagyric medicine.

Cesare Mattei was a friend and the homeopathic practitioner of Pope Pius IX, who made him a Count in honour of his achievements, and he also appointed him Treasurer of Bologne,

Electro Homoepathy is not related to homeopathy at all, and at the time, homeopaths were quite upset that these remedies were distributed by the Geneva Electro Homeopathic Institute headed by the pharmacist Albert Sauter (1846-1896), a former collaborator and representative of Mattei.

Nonetheless, these remedies were widely distributed throughout Europe, though true homeopathic pharmacies refused to stock them, and many homeopaths wrote articles condeming them.

Such tactics never work with the public, even when homeopaths try them!

Giuseppe Mauro 1758 – 1857

Giuseppe Mauro 1758 – 1853 MD was an Italian orthodox physician who converted to homeopathy, aged 64 years, and after 36 years of practice, to become a pioneer in homeopathy and a major translator of homeopathic writing.

Mauro was converted to homeopathy by Georg von Necker in 1822/3, and he became a student of Samuel Hahnemann. At the age of 64, Mauro began to learn German so he could learn homeopathy more effectively.

Cosmo Maria De Horatiis 1771 – 1850

Cosmo Maria De Horatiis 1771 – 1850 was an Italian orthodox physician who converted to homeopathy. Horatiis was the physician of Francis I of Naples, Ferdinand II, Professor of the Theory and Practice of Medicine in the University of Naples, President of the Royal Academy of Medicine, and in 1830, Horatiis founded The Naples Homeopathic Society.

In 1845 Horatiis published an Italian translation of the fourth edition of Samuel Hahnemann’s Organon,
